In addition to being an active performer and bandleader at various venues and festivals across the United States, Ryan has over a decade of experience teaching guitar to students of all ages and skill levels.

Ryan maintains an active lessons studio online using Zoom and also accepts in-person students in Northern New Jersey.

Ryan’s past students have enrolled in guitar programs such as Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute, Eastman School of Music, The University of Georgia, and The University of North Texas.

Recently, Ryan was a Teaching Fellow at The University of North Texas (UNT) which is home to one of the most well-known jazz departments in the United States. As a Teaching Fellow in the Jazz Guitar Department, Ryan was Instructor of Record for Applied Jazz Guitar Lessons where he was responsible for writing the course syllabus and planned lessons for approximately 10 jazz guitar majors and non-majors per semester. Ryan sat on the semesterly jazz guitar juries and provided written feedback to approximately 30 jazz guitar students.

Ryan also directed the Super 400 Jazz Guitar Ensemble which is a UNT Jazz Lab Ensemble. Ryan directed hour long rehearsals 4 nights per week and conducted the ensemble during live performances each semester. Under Ryan’s direction, the group won the award for “Outstanding Ensemble” at the 2023 International Collegiate Guitar Ensemble Festival in the Modern Jazz Division.

Ryan is an experienced clinician and gave jazz guitar workshops and clinics at the University of North Texas as part of the Jazz Guitar Departmental weekly meeting for all jazz guitar students and faculty. Additionally, Ryan was invited to present internationally at the Forum on Jazz & Popular Music at the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua where he gave his presentation entitled “Using the Altered Scale: Arpeggio and Triad Superimpositions for Modern Jazz Lines.”
